Public presentation of the Impact Evaluation of the Tuzla Canton Subsidy Programs for Small and Medium Enterprises (June 25, 2018)

On Monday, June 25, 2018, a public presentation of findings of the evaluation of the impact of subsidies from the Tuzla Canton budget on the development of small and medium-sized enterprises for the period from 2011 to 2015 was held. This is the first time that public institutions in BiH have decided to conduct an evaluation of the impact of government subsidy programs in BiH. Also, this is the first time that such analysis is based on rigorous and precise scientific methods and that the analysis is a product of knowledge and the expertise of domestic experts. The aim of this evaluation was to determine whether subsidies to small and medium-sized enterprises in Tuzla Canton resulted in better business results of these enterprises. The scientific methods used can be replicated, with fewer adjustments, to evaluate the impact of other similar programs financed from the budget of public institutions. With the support of the Tuzla Canton Government, this evaluation was carried out by the professors from the Faculty of Economics, University of Tuzla, Dr. Jasmina Okičić and Dr. Meldina Kokorović Jukan, who are also researchers involved in the Research Fellows Program at the USAID Monitoring and Evaluation Support Activity (MEASURE-BiH). MEASURE-BiH provided necessary technical assistance and support on that occasion.

The public presentation of the evaluation report was held under the auspices of the University of Tuzla. Introductory speeches were given by the Prime Minister of the Tuzla Canton, the Rector of the University of Tuzla, and MEASURE-BiH Chief of Party to the attending representatives of the Government of the Tuzla Canton, representatives of the municipalities of the Tuzla Canton, members of the academic community, representatives of the USAID Mission in BiH, and media.
